Organizing

Many people say an unorganized home leads to a chaotic life. I agree..lol. I have been trying to organize everything in the house. Is it me or does it seem like there is never enough room? I have tons of closet space, but they are all full. My goal for this next week is to get rid of anything that I have not worn in the past year. I have so many pairs of shoes that it is ridiculous. I always bag all my stuff and give it to my mom who either has a garage sale or gives it to people in need. Make-up, love it. I have so much of it that I bought all these organizers to try and get it in order. The funny thing about it is that I don't wear it much...lol. Guess I'll get rid of a lot of that as well.

If you have any organizational skills or ideas. Please share them with me while I'm on my quest to organize my house.

Thanks : )

I'm doing my 'Spring Cleaning' too, it can really get overwhelming can't it? I have so many rooms to sort through... ugh. My closet is a scary place too... there are shoes in there that I haven't worn in years!

So this Spring Clean, I've decided to get really strong about purging all the things I just don't need, use or want anymore.

My new rule is... If I haven't used it, touched it or looked at it in the last year (ok maybe 2 hehe)... out it goes. Hahahaha - sounds easier said than done - I'll let you know how I made out ;o)

Good luck - we'll have to compare notes!

I am always trying to organize and get rid of things that I don't need, but it seems that I just move everything from one room into another, and then vise versa, haha. It never seems to end. Oh well, at least I try. Good luck with yours!

Living in a smaller home definitely forces the issue. With very limited closets storage space, you have few choices: put up with clutter, get creative on organizing, or get rid of stuff.

The solution we have to deal with our very tight closet problem is seasonal clothes rotation. We load up all of our Summer wear (shorts, t-shirts, sandals) into 18-gallon Rubbermaid boxes and stash them in our storage building in the backyard. Then as Summer is approaching again like it is right now, we pull those boxes out, unload the hot weather wear and pile in the long sleeves & Winter-weight stuff. Each time we rotate, we also cull out stuff that's gotten too worn, doesn't fit well anymore, or is just something we know we're not going to use again. This system is a bit cumbersome, but it does work pretty well. The stuff we cull out usually goes straight down to the nearby Goodwill drop-off, so we're not just throwing away clothes that could still have some useful life left in 'em.

Some people might think "Just get a bigger house," and while that might be nice, I suspect it would just give us more space to fill with needless stuff. I kinda like that the limited space forces us to deal with the clutter.

And we're always trying very hard to bring less new stuff in...
